Breath: Coherence
Breath runs one practice: slow, even breathing at about five and a half breaths a minute. Two tracks come with the app, a short one and a long one. You pick one and close your eyes.
A session, start to finish
- Tap either circle on the home screen. A short entry animation gives you a moment to settle, then the audio begins.
- Follow the sound. A thin ring marks how much time is left, but the audio is what keeps the rhythm. There is nothing to count and nothing to watch.
- Tap Tap to dim and the screen fades to black while the session runs on. Tap again and it comes back, slowly. Eyes shut, or the phone face down.
- End finishes early, fading the audio out over about a second. A session shorter than one minute is discarded.
- The line at the bottom of the home screen — done today or not yet today — opens your record.
What 05 and 20 mean
They are names for the two tracks. Each one includes an opening and a closing tone, so it runs slightly longer than its label suggests. The ring shows the real time remaining.
Your record
Six weeks of days, one dot each. Below that: the current streak, total minutes, and your most recent sessions with their dates and lengths. A day counts toward the streak once you have practised at least a minute in it, and today not being finished yet does not break the run.
Apple Health
If you allow it, each recorded session is saved to Apple Health as a Mindful Session. The permission is write-only — Breath never reads anything from Health, including heart rate or heart-rate variability.
To change it later, or if you declined at first launch and iOS has stopped asking: Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Breath. Sessions recorded while the permission was off stay in the app's own record and are not backfilled into Health.
Common questions
- What is Breath: Coherence?
- Breath: Coherence by FromNow.ai is a free, offline coherent breathing timer for iPhone. It guides 5- or 20-minute sessions at about 5.5 breaths a minute.
- Is Breath: Coherence free?
- Yes. Version 1.0 is free on the App Store, with no subscription, advertising, or in-app purchase.
- What is coherent or resonance breathing?
- Coherent breathing, also called resonance breathing, is slow, even paced breathing. Breath uses an eleven-second cycle, about 5.5 breaths a minute or roughly 0.09 Hz.
- Where can I download Breath: Coherence?
- Download it from the official App Store page. It requires an iPhone running iOS 26.0 or later.
- Does it keep going with the screen locked?
- Yes. Audio continues when you lock the phone or switch apps. The gentle haptic cues stop while the device is locked, because iOS does not allow haptics then.
- What happens if a call comes in?
- The session pauses and the screen shows paused. When the interruption ends the audio picks up where it left off. Unplugging headphones pauses it the same way.
- Do I need a connection?
- Never. Both tracks ship inside the app, and it makes no network requests of any kind. Airplane mode changes nothing.
- Where does my practice history live?
- In a file inside the app's own sandbox on your device, and in Apple Health if you allowed it. Nothing is uploaded. See the privacy policy.
- Does Breath read my Apple Health data?
- No. The permission is write-only — Breath never reads anything from Health, including heart rate or heart-rate variability. Each recorded session is saved as a Mindful Session.
- Will an update erase my history?
- No. The record carries a schema version and is read leniently, so files written by older versions keep working. A file that cannot be read at all is set aside under its own name and left alone.
- Is this medical advice?
- No. Breath is a breathing timer and makes no medical claims. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. Talk to a qualified professional about any health concern.
